Anambra to Revive Onitsha Mineral Water Industries

November 2012 Economic Confidential

Anambra State Government has initiated measures to resuscitate the collapsed Nigeria Mineral Water Industries, Onitsha.

The state Governor, Mr. Peter Obi disclosed this intention during an inspection tour of the facility in company of some top government officials and a team of foreign investors from South Africa.

He said the efforts were in line with the present drive by his administration to attract investors from all parts of the world to widen employment opportunities and build the economy.

He lamented that such high profile industries have been wasting away over the years, while the country continued to face serious challenges of unemployment.

The Governor expressed sadness over the degree of dilapidation and vandalisation of the facilities but expressed hope that when revitalised, the company has the capacity to employ between two to three hundred workers.

Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on investment attributed the renewed interest of many South-African firms in Anambra to a successful take-off of SABmiller brewery at Onitsha.
“The part played by the Government of Anambra State led by Mr. Peter Obi towards the realisation of SABmiller dream was a testimony to most of them that Anambra State Government indeed understood what investment is,” he said.
