Rivers’ Transformation Agenda on Course

Rivers-state-governor-Rotimi-AmaechiGovernor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has that in two months residents of Port Harcourt would enjoy steady power supply. He gave the assurance while giving an account of stewardship of his administration during the Port Harcourt Local Government Area Town Hall meeting in Port Harcourt City Council.

Governor Amaechi noted that to achieve this feat his administration constructed the Elekahia Sub-Station and trained 100 workers for the power sector. On  education, the State Chief Executive said a total of 32 primary schools had been built and the contract for the construction of 20 new classroom blocks in  Ahiamakara and a new nursery school in Port Harcourt had been awarded, adding that government also entered into a six year contract with some German teachers to teach U.B.E. pupils.

He directed the Health Ministry to open the Kesley Harrison Hospital in January 2013 pointing out that government had adequately funded the Ministry to effectively handle the free medical scheme of the State.

On the monorail project, Rt Hon. Amaechi promised that phase 1A would be completed next year while the 2nd phase would be completed in 2015.

He disclosed that traders at Ikoku would be relocated to Rumuokrushi, pointing out that Ikoku area has been earmarked for a new Housing Estate and promised to furnish the hospital in the University of Science and Technology campus.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo had lauded the Governor for his giant stride and pleaded with the State Government for intervention work on some roads in Port Harcourt especially in the Borikiri and Diobu axis.

Highlights of the occasion was the inspection of the new legislative complex built by the Phalga Council and cultural displays.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion included the wife of the Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru,House of Representative member for Phalga Constituency I, Hon. Ken Chikere, SSG, Mr. George Feyii, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Traditional Rulers and People from all walks of life.
